| Kosovo (Albanian: Kosovë, Kosova or Dardania, Serbian: Косово, Kosovo or Kosovo i Metohija), officially the Republic of Kosovo (Albanian: Republika e Kosovës, Serbian: Republika Kosovo), is a parliamentary republic in Southeastern Europe. The Republic of Kosovo is a landlocked country bordered by Albania to the southwest, the Republic of Macedonia to the southeast, Montenegro to the west, and Serbia to the north.
After international negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia failed to reach a consensus on a final status for Kosovo, the Assembly of Kosovo, based on the plan formulated by UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari recommending independence supervised by the international community[1], declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008. |
